The Ethiopian sector is a vibrant Voluntas community with a well functioning council and a ministry to the elderly, homeless and HIV infected.

In 2014, the Director General and his council asked the USA District to accept Ethiopia as a Sector within our governance. The role of the USA District is to offer fraternal support and to serve as consultants/advisors to the Sector.

Leaders of the USA District have traveled to Ethiopia to visit the sector members, and submitted this Ethiopian Sector Report to the members of the District. Leaders from the Ethiopian sector have also visited the USA District at its annual congress.

Although the District does not have financial responsibility for the Ethiopia Sector, we are making a concerted effort to obtain funding for the education of seminarians and the ministry to the poor and homeless through grants/foundations, preaching through the Propagation of the Faith, and searching for sponsoring parishes and donors. See the bottom of this page for details on how to support the Ethiopian sector.

We are grateful to the many individuals who have made contributions for our mission in Ethiopia, including members of the USA District and individuals who have made a donation after hearing a mission appeal in their parish.

In addition, we would like to acknowledge the following foundations who have generously given grants for the work of Voluntas Dei in Ethiopia:

  • The Luce Foundation
  • The Engelhardt Foundation
  • The Koch Foundation
  • The Amalia and Nicola  Giuliani Foundation
